Scouting — Vincent Thill

Vincent Thill is an attacking midfielder who has always excelled at playing in the youth ranks of both Metz and Luxembourg.

Having even been associated with Bayern Munich, the 18-year-old is now on loan to Pau FC in the French third division, where he has apparently proved himself at a good level. With 6 goals in 12 games, the young attacking midfielder has shown great appetite for goal.

Left, always with his head held high, the young midfielder sees everything before the others, making it look like he is playing at a very high speed. He also has a lot of technical quality in his dribbling, which allows him to break containment lines and create imbalances. These characteristics allow him to also play from the right wing (where I like to see him more), exploring interior movements, a bit like Brahimi does in the left wing of Porto, or as Bernardo Silva did last year in Manchester City.

He also seems to be abusing the midfielder’s shot, even though it’s not his strong suit, and he should correct this aspect and/or perfect the execution of this type of shot.

He shows a very competitive profile, being quite fierce in the dispute of the moves (fruit of having always played against opponents of greater importance?) and always wanting to seek offensive solutions, not afraid to take responsibility. Maybe also because of this risk some solutions that sometimes would not be the best (a little for example to the image of Bruno Fernandes).

In this Pau FC, Vincent Thill seems sometimes not to be understood by colleagues. Very interesting movements that are not reciprocated, tables that remain to be made, passes that should enter space and enter the foot, etc.. Still, most of the good offensive combinations of the team come from the feet of the small (1.70m) Luxembourger.

Vincent Thill seems then to be one of those players who will be more noticeable the higher the level of the team where he is inserted. In a team where you are looking for combinations in the centre row, where the players are closer and where you try to enter the space between the lines. Playing at the first touch, with fast combinations, disassembling the blocks in a collective way. You have everything to have a bright future.

Here are some videos I’ve compiled of some games for Pau FC.
